Natalie Kirk
Natalie is an enrolled member of The Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs. She has been the curator at The Museum at Warm Springs for over three years.
Natalie is an accomplished artist who uses several mediums. While working at The Museum, Natalie learned to weave from Master Weaver Eraina Palmer, who was at the time the museum's curator. Given time, Natalie's skills as a weaver grew and she in turn has become a master of the art of weaving. She is very diligent and detail-oriented weaver, so her designs are carefully planned. She has won the "Judges Choice" award (the top honor) for the Annual Tribal Member Art Show during the summer of 2000, for her entry "Native Family Strength," a "wapus" basket.
Natalie's baskets, mini wapus baskets and mini huckleberry baskets are made with, but not limited to twine, hemp, waxed linen, cotton, yarn and corn husk. Natalie has also taught weaving classes with several eager students ready to revive this art and continue on the tradition. Additionally, Natalie draws, paints, does beadwork (including loom and flat stitch) and is also a gifted writer composing poems and short stories.
The Museum gift shop has a great selection of baskets made by Natalie, including miniatures, larger baskets, necklaces, earrings and the cutest miniature Huckleberry Basket (including huckleberries). Each art item is unique, but all equally beautiful. If you are searching for that "special" gift, please give us a call and we will be glad to answer your questions
